 "Great concept, poor quality, mediocre service" 2009-09-05

I bought one of these on August 19 and had no problems with it. I used it to workout five days a week. I tried it out with laptops and there were noise artifacts and dropouts (MacBook Pro and Dell XPS M1330). I then tried it with the matching Motorola iPod Bluetooth radio and this combination worked exceedingly well. I also had no problems pairing with my phone and was impressed by the technology to hold a hands-free conversation.



Unfortunately it died today. I have the dreaded flashing purple light problem. I did an online chat with Motorola Customer Service and they offered to send me an RMA. I accepted and they sent me the email. I was expecting a box or something but their process is that I send it at my expense and that they have no responsibility if it doesn't get to them. I'm within the return/replace window so I'm going to try that process first.



I do have a second one so I'll use that while getting the problems with the first on ironed out. I took good care of the device - it was only in my gym or laptop bag for storage while I wasn't using it. The device did get sweaty but it's designed for that with seals all over the place. In the future, I'll wipe the device down before storing it away in case there was a manufacturing defect.



I hope that they reengineer a better product in the future. The feature set is very nice.

When they arrived the headset linked up easily enough to my iphone 3GS but the left speaker did not work at all.. not for phone calls, videos or music. And once I had a chance to try them on they were not all that comfortable and I will not be getting a replacement pair.

I have a PocketPC phone and have corded stereo headphones. It was challenging while wortking in the yard, since the cord would become tangled.



The S9 made this transition to "cordless" painless and fun.



I also like the phone feature built into the headphones. Voices come through crisp and clear.



Finally, the price was excellent. I have seen headpones for twice what was offered on Amazon. The packaging was very eco friendly.

I got these to wear at work so I can quickly pause my music to answer the phone. They work great mtgs only drawback in using them with the iPhone is not being able to skip tracks. On the whole though, a great price to go wireless.

I am using the Motorola S9 with my Apple iTouch. The sound quality if very good when you consider the cost. I do have trouble getting the S9 to connect to Bluetooth on my iTouch some times. I do not seem to have this problem with my computer so it might be the iTouch. Having the equipment pack at the back of your head can be problem when laying down. I have not see the problem with the buttons that many others have complained about -- maybe that is only a matter of time.

Looks perfect for working out doesn't it? If you don't sweat at all, it probably is, but if you sweat on it, it will stop working. If you walk outside it will cut out. If you want to use it indoors and not working out then the sound quality is pretty decent. The phone call quality does not match the music quality. The styling and comfort are great and if they could sweat PROOF the set, make it work outdoors and not cut out, improve phone call quality, and match the sub $50 price they would sell me 2 of them.

I was so excited to get these headphones, as the wired 'phones drive me crazy when I am jogging. I can't attest to how easy they are to pair with a Bluetooth connection, as the man in the store set them up for me. After I charged them fully, I took them out for a run the very first time, and had mixed feelings about their performance.

The next/last/pause buttons NEVER worked on them, but the volume controls seemed to be fine. After only three weeks of use (only three times a week at that, so probably 10x total), I took them out one morning and found that the volume button didn't work. I ran on anyway, and later it indicated that I had pressed the buttons (it beeps to let you know you pushed a button)and it began to adjust the volume... 27 minutes later, in fact! I had a race coming up the next time I took it out, so I tested it before the starting line up... the volume button didn't work at all, and the volume it had picked was WAY to loud to use, so I was forced to use the wired headphones for the race.

I took them back to the store, where the cashier didn't even wait for me to explain, he knew they were junk.

I would not recommend these to anyone. If only someone would release some wireless headphones that are decent. I am sure there are plenty of people who exercise who would appreciate them!

I use my S9 with my iPod Touch and my Blackberry 8330 at the same time. I purchased this headset because I ride a bicycle to work about 30 miles per day and needed something wireless for my music. I ended up with an unexpected bonus; the thing can be connected to my iPod and my blackberry simultaneously. First, pair with your phone, then pair with your iPod and no issues. For iPod music, it's great sound quality in both ears. I've seen reviews that claim it's not 'true' stereo but honestly I cant tell, I just want great music while I ride and this thing delivers that. While riding and listening to music if a call comes in I hear the ring over the music (music is dimmed a little) and if I want to answer I press the button over the left ear and the music on iPod is paused, Blackberry is activated and I'm on the phone. When the call is over and other party hangs up I press the button over my right ear and music resumes. Battery life: I use it all day, charge it at night. It only died on me once and that was on day2 when I forgot to charge it. I've seen reviews where it's stated only the wall charger works... well I used my usb charger for my blackberry 8330 and it worked great so get one of those if you need one. I only gave 4 stars for one reason: it is supposed to be able to skip forward or backward to music tracks with two buttons over the right ear, that almost never works (probably a pairing issue). So for my biking I make sure my playlists are 100% desireable for riding. For talking on the phone it is not stereo, the left speaker is where you hear your caller and the right speaker is where the microphone is located. It works great though, it is still covering your right ear so background noise is not as much of an interference for me. I have had callers complain if people are speaking close to my right ear, it seems to zoom in on human voice when the microphone is in use.

The best part is the price was under $40 at Amazon! Same day at BestBuy it was $109 and a few weeks later it was still over $100 at BestBuy. Same packaging and free shipping, you cant beat that!

OH, I saw complaints about sunglasses no working with it. For my riding glasses it's no issue at all since they just hug the side of my head. For my regular sunglasses, wire frame ray bans, I put on glasses first then put on S9, not quite the same fit but extremely close and it does not fall off, EVER.

It does include several sets of ear bud covers so you get the fit you want and yes the base tones are delivered nicely.



According to the instructions it can sync to 8 devices at once. I've only tried 3 at once but typically only use the 2 I mentioned here. It did work with the 3.

I have to say that I gave these headsets a fighting chance -- I am on my FOURTH set. There weren't many alternatives for us folks who want wireless headsets while we work out or run. But they always, always break. And the bluetooth Ipod adapter, which is clunky, never works as well as the Sony dongle. I would add that these headphones are not really comfortable, tend to ride the buds out of the ears as one runs, and can't be worn at the same time as sunglasses. My latest set melted down just before a half marathon -- suddenly, they no longer take a charge.



Give these a miss and spend your money on Sony heaadset -- more expensive but really worth it.

I bought this product to work in my garden. It is great, unless you bend over or somehow readjust your position in relation to the transmitter. If I was always standing or going for a run or walk, it is fine. If I strap my iPod to my wheelbarrel, it is fine. But, if I have my iPod in my pocket and bend over to plant something or pull a weed, it cuts out. A lot.



Increases battery use of my iPod. On the other hand, I don't have the problem of the flimsy wiring of corded headphones which seem to break no matter what they cost. If you're looking for a wireless headset, this does work, but only in specific situations. Not so much for me.

This unit has it all. Great sound, good battery life, easy to learn and use buttons and it is somewhat comfortable.



The only con - and it is a big one - is it's range. If I put my phone, or iPod with Bluetooth adapter, in my pocket (about 2-3' away from headset) the sound will often time cut out. This is especially frustrating on the iPod where the iPod pauses itself when the connection is lost. As a result I gave up using the iPod, bought a 16gb microSD card for my Smartphone and use that instead. It still cuts out but at least the phone doesn't pause each time it happens.



I had noticed that it cuts out when I turn my head to the left when my phone is in my right pocket. If I turn my head to the right I get the sound again.



For comparison I have a Plantronics 222 hands free headset that has not ever cut out even when I leave it in the car and walk 20' to my mailbox.



So in summery, this is a great device if you keep your Bluetooth transmitter within a foot of the headset

I bought this device after all of the rave reviews on here. Overall I like the earphones but I am having issues. I have submitted a ticket on Motorola's site, but they have not been of any assistance as of yet.



I want to use these to make and receive Skype phone calls with my laptop, listen to music (itunes, winamp, or whatever) and I use their provided bluetooth adapter for my Ipod. So far all that works decently is the Ipod sync. On initial install with my Laptop (Asus EEE 904HA with a $3 bluetooth adapter I found on slickdeals) my music started playing right from the start and sounded great. The first time I changed the sync to my Ipod again, when I tried to change back to my Laptop the indicator light went from Blue to Red and refuses to sync. Windows tells me it is synced, but the sound never comes out of my headphones. I am assuming this is some type of Sync issue with Windows, and not an actual hardware issue. I have not pursued getting a new headset yet.



I also have since ripped off one of the little rubber shields and have a tape patch. I would like to find a replacement ear bud rubber booty or get one from Motorola if they sell them. I have no idea how it came out. Nothing special, all of a sudden, it's missing.



Any assistance in either of these issues would be GREATLY appreciated.



For the hardware of the device, it does great when it has line of sight. I on average get great audio up to 8 ft away from the transmitter when using the Ipod. I have an older 60 gig video Ipod. I get some audio cutout when I move the Ipod too much (as in working out...) I think it is an issue with the bluetooth adapter not fully seating on the Ipod, and the connection being broken. If I take it out of my pocket, and set it down, the audio is great. If I walk away forgetting it is there, and get 10+ feet away, the audio starts cutting out again, reminding me to go and grab it.



I am thinking I will tape the adapter on and try that. Maybe that will let me run with full audio.
