I was searching for an attractive bluetooth at a descent price, then I found this one. After reading all the previous reviews, weighing pros and cons of all possible contenders, and looking at financial loss should my choice be a "DUD"; I chose the Cardo Scala 700! I didn't order just one; but two. At the price listed I figured I could not go wrong......I was right! The Cardo Scala 700 is light weight, comfortable, attractive, very versatile, and sound clarity is wonderful. In short; this headset is "FANTABULOUS!!!"

First unit would not charge or turn on, unless plugged in. Same problem with the replacement. Even if I got a functioning one now, I'd wonder how long can it possibly be good for.



I've had a SCALA 500 for about 4 years, and it's been just about perfect. I recently dropped it, and the speaker cover and one of the wires have come off, but now I'll be soldering it back together - even after a few weeks of sitting in my "dead electronics" drawer, it is still charged, and works well when the contact is held closed.

I bought the Card Systems Scala 700 headset a few months ago, and I have not regretted it one bit. The headset has a lot of great features.



Pros:

-Very affordable

-Comfortable and easy to wear on either ear

-Quick and easy to link and operate

-Decent range (I can leave my phone in the living room and wander about my apartment without issue)

-Pair-swap feature is amazing. I can have easily switch the connection between my Blackberry and my Playstation3 by simply pressing the rocker button twice.

-Has a "find headset feature" for when you lose it, but this obviously only works when the headset is on

-Great sound, bought incoming and outgoing



Cons:

-Not very stylish, it looks a little bit clumsy to me

-Charger plugin is unique, I cannot share it with other devices

-Can easily get lost, though this problem is shared by all small headsets really



Overall, for the price you pay, it would be extremely tough to beat this headset!

Originally ordered this item in late July. First one shipped was defective (wouldn't take a charge). Returned for replacement, which wasn't sent until shipper received defective item back. Second item was also defective - same problem. I requested prepaid shipping and asked that a replacement be sent right away. The initial shipping charge was refunded, but it's ten days later and I still don't have the item.



Can't evaluate the product yet, but getting a hold of it has been a nightmare!

This is a great product. It works well with my previous phone. Palm Centro. It works just as well with my new Palm Pre. It was given to me as a Christmas gift, and I lost it. Luckily I was able to find a replacement. The gift giver is none the wiser. My first order was defective. I had to ship it back. My exchange was handled with much professionalism. I was out some shipping, but @ the price I paid, I still can't complain. What a great value. My Palm Pre came with a free Bluetooth that was worthless. I gave it away. This headset is a keeper. It is a little bulky, but the sound is fantastic. I live in CA where a headset on the road is NOT an option. I could care less about how the headset looks. The important part is that whoever I am on the phone with can hear me, and I can hear them as well. Not to mention it keeps me, as well as others on the road, safe.

I bought this headset because everyone said it was LOUD.



I have hearing problems, and I want a headset that I can hear. If that were my only criteria, this would be a good headset. This is my second headset, and I found that there were several features I had taken for granted on my old headset that are lacking in this one.



My old headset was a Motorola HS-850 headset Motorola HS850 Bluetooth Headset (Silver)[Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging]. Features I liked on it: You could answer the phone by flipping open the boom, thereby turning on the headset and linking it to the phone. The back of this is flat and covered in a thin sheet of a rubber-like substance, which makes it easy to use with an in-ear hearing aid and has an edge that tends to block outside noise. It has about the same degree of loudness as the Cardo. It makes a little blip in my ear when the phone rings. This is useful when I have the phone in my handbag, which muffles the ring, so I don't always hear the phone itself. When I go somewhere with friends, I wear the headset and can contact them or be contacted if we get separated. The headset is comfortable. It feels loose, and precarious, but has never fallen off and is actually quite secure, and is so comfortable that I've forgotten I was wearing it. The headset has a volume control. It turns on and off by flipping the boom mic open or closed, so it's easy to see instantly if it's on.



New, Cardo headset: takes long enough to turn on and link that you can't use it to answer the phone with any degree of reliability, i.e., the phone will stop being answerable before you can get the headset working if it's not already on. The back of this is flatter than most headsets, but still extends into the outer ear a bit. The shape might work with an in-ear hearing aid, but it would work better with some than others. The part the sound comes from is metal, and would probably bang loudly against a hearing aid, although I haven't tried it. When the phone rings, the headset remains silent. This may not be a problem for others, but it makes it too easy for me to miss calls. The headset is comfortable for about two seconds, then it's uncomfortable, and after a minute, it begins to HURT! The headset is very tight on the ear and does not feel like it will fall off. You can't forget you're wearing it because of the pain. I think this is not specific to me, personally, because there's a very small amount of space between the back of the headset and the earpiece, so it's going to pinch anyone's ear. This headset has no volume control and relies solely on the volume control of the phone. There's a button to turn it on and off, but you have to hold the button for a while to do this. Lights are the only visible indication that it's on or off, and you may have to wait a few seconds to tell. Everything about the operation of this headset feels slow and clunky.



Both headsets tend to boost human speech in the higher ranges. This makes both of them sound tinny, but does a lot to enhance the understandability of speech, a plus for both.



I had a friend complain about background noise when I talked to him over this headset. He said it sounded like there was a fan on nearby. There was NO noise at all in my apartment at the time.



I wish I had spent the money on another Motorola headset, and I'll probably buy another one as soon as I can scrape up the money.

I was forced to return this item directly to cardo because of a defective battery. I purchased this headset because of two prior headsets I had from them which served my faithfully until I dropped one in water and lost the other one. This one works quite well. BTW, I have also found the one I lost, so now I have two! As to the cost, the shipping was expensive, but the unit was well priced.

I have mixed feelings about this product. From an electronics point of view, it works well. Easy to pair, plenty of volume, no static, no complaints about the sound of my voice and excellent price. The unit is light and some have called it flimsy but I don't have any major gripes with its construction. The loop, on the other hand, is another story. Right out of the box, it didn't even come close to fitting properly. The speaker is meant to sit just outside your ear canal. Since it does not bury itself in your ear, it lacks this central point of support. Furthermore, the speaker itself is large with smooth, bevelled edges which don't "catch" on the inside edges of your ear. Once again, this make the earpiece feel unstable. After one day of use, I thought that I was toss it in the desk drawer and get another brand. Feeling guilty about being wasteful, I gave it another chance. For the next 2 days, I bent the loop in all different directions. Finally, I looked at myself in the mirror with the headset on and was able to shape the loop to get the unit to sit properly. After much effort, it feels pretty secure. I now plan on keeping the unit but give its engineers low marks for ergonomic design. If you buy one, be prepared to spend some time fitting it or risk losing it after a hard sneeze.

If you are looking for a quality headset at 1/4 the price of Plantronics', Blue Ant's or Jawbone's trash, go with Cardo! I think you will be impressed. Like all the other bluetooth headset manufacturers Cardo still needs to work on their noise cancelling. ALL bluetooth headsets pick up a lot of background noise when on the road.

I've been running the Cardo Systems SCALA 700LX Bluetooth Headset for over a year now. Bought this new one from Amazon after my old one bit the dust. Funny how being dropped in a water puddle and getting stepped on, affected the performance. But Cardo replaced the original headset even though it was more of an "abuse" than a "mfg failure" issue. They sent me a brand new one with all the attachments. You can't get better service that that from a mfg.



Battery life is claimed to be about 10 hours talk time, and I've proved it. It will run for days between charges, then just drop with very little warning other than a "beep" when it disconnects and goes silent. The version sent to me, included a AC wall charger and USB charger cord, and I think the replacement model from Cardo included a 12vdc charger adapter too.



Comfort... well, that's another story. You have to adjust the earpiece just right, or I find it starts hurting my ear a bit after hours and hours of continuous wearing. But if you adjust it right, you won't even notice it on your ear (which is how my first one ended up knocked off into the water puddle in the parking lot and stepped on).



Would I buy another 1? If both of these guys go south on me, and Cardo's not as forgiving the second time around to replace them free, then yes, I would buy another one.

I replaced my Scala 500 with this one after the 500 spent several days and nights in my driveway during a torrential downpour. I found the 500 after the rain stopped, took it apart, dried it out and glued it back together and it worked just like new (except the LED quit working a few days later). In the meantime I ordered the 700LX and love it.



Save yourself time and money and just order the Scala 700LX from Amazon. For about $22 including shipping you can't beat it. Do yourself a favor and get this - you wont be disappointed!!!!!

I have to tell you that since I first purchased a Scala Bluetooth, I have been impressed. The first one was a 500, this one is the 700 and the quality, sound, performance are all still there. I hadn't heard of Scala before I purchased one but, when the dog ate my 500, and I am serious, she really did chew it to bits, well then, I looked online, found the 700 and bought not one but two, one for me and one for my partner. I am totally satisfied. I like the features, the way it holds a charge, the time it takes to recharge all of it is top quality.
