"Works ok, user un-friendly design" 2008-08-03
By Robert Wightman (Santa Barbara, CA)
I agree with the previous comments about the size of the ear bud and the volume up/down. The ear bud is a little too large so it can make my ear sore after having it in there for awhile. I can live with it but why wouldn't they either give a choice of different sizes that people can adjust or thru some QA testing make sure the one size feels good to most people? If you're going to spend all that time designing a product, why not design it with comfort and functionality in mind, just like a previous reviewer said. So on the part of functionality, I agree it is hard to find the volume up and down buttons when it's on the head. They should have made them raised buttons, easy to distinguish from the on/off/accept button. Jabra didn't notice this from their QA testing? You have to wonder how they can be so clueless and what they're smoking wherever they are (New Hampshire or Illinois from what I've read). The wireless connection and reception are very decent and people say they can hear me better on this than my wired headset. The battery life, it lasts about two days without charging. I don't know if that's good or bad. The device information wasn't that great with the packaging. It gave a few basic tips on how to use it, but no specification data or any details about auto-shut off. I believe it does an auto-shut off if it hasn't been used for awhile, since the blue light stops blinking. However I'm not sure of that so it would be really nice if Jabra could have said something in their instructions. No way, that would be TOO helpful!!!! Guess I'll keep this for now. Did they skimp on "fit and funtionality" as this is one of the lowest priced models available? It's hard to believe but maybe not such a stretch.

"A very poor representative for Jabra!" 2008-07-28
By Kevin R. Mahanna (Hickory, NC)
I too received the Jabra Bluetooth headset with my new Verizon cell-phone. I've not even looked to see how much I paid for it, but if it were free AND included a $25 rebate, it would still be too much.

PRO's - The headset itself is small and barely noticable. I don't like the idea of walking around in public with a Bluetooth stuck in my ear, but if you have to do it, for inconspicuous, this would be a good choice.

- The ear hook easily changes from one ear to the other by merely popping it off and flipping it over; a two second change at most. Very nice, since I must have it on the left ear only.

CON's - The earpiece is very large. There are no replacements for them and you are stuck with what you get. When I got my iPod, the earbuds that came with it hurt my ears badly and I had to replace them. This earpiece is at least as large as those.

- About two-thirds of the conversations I had using this device went badly. I had to repeat myself over, and over, and finally I had to YELL! So much for being inconspicuous. Then I would ultimately have to tell them to wait while I disconnected the Bluetooth so I could finish the conversation.

- The other party had the same problem...What?, What?, I can't hear you!

- I almost had to hold the cell-phone in front of the device to get any reception at all. If I were to lay the phone down and walk more than six (unobstructed) feet away, forget about it. I would have to run back to the phone quickly so the other party wouldn't hang up thinking that I had been disconnected. The same if it were in my pocket or belt case.

- Out-of-doors, I had no luck at all. I am not sure if it was outide interferance, the wind, or both, but I had to terminate the call and return it later. Fortunately all of the calls I made using this device were personal. I cringe at the thought anyone would try to use this while making a business call.

When assessing the usefullness or value of any product, you must evaluate at least two major elements: Fit and function. This product fulfilled niether of these. It fit in my ear poorly, and it just plain didn't meet any definition of functional.

This product is a very poor specimen to represent Jabra. Not having any previous experience with other Jabra products; I still would never buy another. My recommendation is to pull this off the market before it ruins completely the Jabra name.

 "really horrible" 2008-07-23
By J. Morrow
This came in a package when I got my phone from Verizon, and it's not even worth the deal we got on the package. First of all, no one can hear me. I cannot have a conversation on it without repeating myself. Secondly, it won't stay in my ear. If I leave the ear hook on, it gets tangled up in my hair and glasses, and if I take it off, the headset slides out of my ear, forcing me to hold it in, which defeats the purpose of a "hands-free device." Additionally, the buttons aren't as functional as I'd hope: the volume buttons are useless, and the magic answer/hang-up/activate-voice-commands/make-bluetooth-connection button won't hang up a call. Tapping it does nothing and holding it down severs the bluetooth connection, leaving the call intact on my phone. This product is a waste of plastic and energy, and it is going to be returned.

"Horrible - save your money" 2008-06-24
By R. Puskas (Pa)
After having the Jabra BT350 for several years and being happy, I looked right back at Jabra when the 350 started getting buzzy. The 185 was a huge disappointment. The call quality was decent, but those volume switches are impossible to use when it's in your ear. This is a vert poorly designed unit.

I returned it and go a Plantronics Voyager 520, and so far very happy with it. Read reviews of the Plantronics and consider that.
