These are the 7th set of earbuds I have tried in my quest to find quality and comfort. Amazingly it is extremely difficult to find both quality and comfort in a reasonably priced set of earbuds. The Maximo iMetal iM490 are the best I've found. They are very comfortable for me (female with smaller ears). The only other earphones I can use for any length of time are my Bose Quiet Comfort II headphones. So, for these to work for me is a dream-come-true!

They come with additional eartips, which make them very easy to find a comfortable fit. The 2-foot extension cable included is also very handy - my work computer is a tower that is mounted under my desktop. The extension allows me to sit a comfortable distance from the desktop (and, thus, monitor). Other earbuds come in smaller lengths and I always felt "tethered" to the desk; with the iM490 I feel free to move.

There is little, if any, sound degradation when using the extension - none noticable to me, anyway.

There is an included 2.5mm plug adaptor - this was the main reason I bought this set. I have a very CHEAP MP3 player that uses the 2.5mm jack. Most earbuds in the U.S. come with the more standard 3.5mm jack. Using the adaptor with the headphones, again, does not appear to distort the sound quality.

Overall, these are a bit expensive for earbuds, but they are quality made, come with a handy little carrying case, have pretty good sound quality and the added benefit of the 2.5mm adaptor plug and the 2-foot extension make them well worth the price.

 "Madcatz: Great, but not Excellent" 2009-07-27

Having bought the Madcatz in June of '08 when I picked up the PS3 MGS4 bundle, I must say, the headset is better than I expected. I honestly am not sure what people are saying about bad battery life, I can keep it charged for a week or two at a time, then use it for a good solid 8-9 hours without worry, that's even a year later. Fully charging the bluetooth takes about 3-4 hours, tops on my Playstation 3, and when I'm using it, as said, it can hold the charge for 8-9 hours while in use, I've been surprised at how long it'll last during gameplay. And while not in use, as stated, it lasts a week or so before it needs a charge. Personally, I'm very satisfied with the headset, and it works like any bluetooth would.



The only reason it has a four star rating, instead of the 5 star I think it needs, is sound quality isn't always great, and it picks up sounds quite easily around the home, making it a tad annoying for those listening to me, though I haven't heard any major complaints on what's being picked up, it can pick up the TV despite sitting a good 10-15 feet away from it on a fairly medium volume. Unfortunately, the sound quality isn't all that amazing on the receiver end, making it sometimes hard to understand what others are saying, but not hard enough I don't love my bluetooth headset.



The setting up of the bluetooth when I got it was simple, it stays connected while on the other side of my apartment, at least a good 25 feet, though I haven't tested further distances, it gets a bit of static between two walls but I can still understand what others are saying, and the volume control is negligible, at best, as the differences aren't totally clear, so the highest and lowest settings don't seem much different if at all. Having had the product for a year now, there is only one problem I have with the headset: Entering it's second year of use, sometimes it won't warn you when the battery is dying, often you'll hear a series of beeps 2-3 minutes before it dies, randomly the beeps will not come, making the death of the battery a surprising affair.



Overall, I've never been a fan of Madcatz and their stuff, but their quality has increased to untold levels with their headset, it's comfortable for extended play, I hardly worry about battery level before play unless it's been a while since it's been plugged up, and it makes gaming cordless, so I can grab a snack or drink while respawning without removing and returning my headset to my head.



Would I recommend this to my friends and strangers? Yes. Would I guarantee the same experience of greatness I have? No. Unfortunately while my product was amazing, and I give it high marks, I can't guarantee everyone the same great experience. Nevertheless, if it were to break, I'd definitely buy an exact replacement. My faith in Madcatz is slowly restored with the bluetooth headset.

I was quite disappointed with this headset the moment it came out of the package. Following the directions was easy enough and getting it paired with the PS3 is fairly straightforward. However, it has problems similar to the Mad Catz headset: (1) the headset battery life is weak and goes dead after a few hours of play; (2) the voice quality is terrible and it's generally difficult to hear other players speak; and (3) the device loses connectivity with the PS3 quite often. Furthermore, the device is of poor construction and the ear piece broke after about a month of play. The device also picks up horrrble feed back which forces you to turn it off anyways or put it in low volume mode where you can't hear anyone. With all these drawbacks, this headset won't enhance your gaming experience. It's shortcomings will instead distract or frustrate your play. This headset is certainly not worth $40 or $50. If I could rate this zero stars I would.

I have used this headset on a daily basis for about a year and a half now. It works really well and it's light and comfortable on your ear. I have never had any problems with it whatsoever. It has held up well with much use and still looks like new. The battery life is really good and will last all day long under normal use. I think this headset has certainly earned 5 stars.

The device is by no means attractive, but the headset does work both when connected to the base-station/telephone as well as my cellphone. Sound quality seems good for me; once or twice the person I was speaking with said it sounded like there was background noise when I was speaking. I have been a Jabra Bluetooth fan for years and this is my first non-Jabra Bluetooth headset. In these years I have broken, lost or damaged at least five Jabra headsets but still was looking for all for one solution.



There are three major audio communication devices today which may need a headset. Starting with your deskphone, your cell/mobile phone and may be your software VoIP running on your laptop/desktop specifically when you travel.



I am glad to say this device can do all that and that too with ease of use to the limit that factory settings will work for most standard phones.



Desk phone/Landline (as we used to call it :-) )

I am using Cisco 79xx series VoIP desk phone at work with headset button that has RJ11 jack for headset - piece of cake worked like a charm, no tuning required except minor volume setting.



Cell/Mobile

Paired with my blackberry and iPhone under a minute and up and running



VoIP Softphone: have not tried as yet but have been informed that it should work flawlessly.



So far my experience for the last 48 hours have been nothing but *five star*.



Sound Quality: Excellent 5* including NO static, noise etc

Distance: Pretty good, I can use my breakroom while in the meeting which should be 20+ feet without loss of quality

Remote pickup/drop: I dont have a lifter so I have to press headset button but can drop the call remotely. Cell phone works just fine the way it should including last number redial

Weight n Stuff : Very nice fit and light wt however as compared to typical BT series of Jabra it is little big (with extended MIC)

Noise Cancellation: Haven't heard a complaint as yet including while driving the car wih driving window open

Additional: I am thinking of buying the 500A base station for my home as well so that I can use the same headset for all my needs - Bonus.

Looks: Not bad but this is not the one that will enhance your looks :-). Extended Mic gives you noise cancelling, avoids your effort to speak louder but reduces the glamour case you care but thats my opinion.



Now the downside



1. Minor: Base station, as typical of Plantronics, too big could have done a better job but not really a downside as in cant take even half a point for that. But something to think about.



2. Major downside is unlike Jabra's amazing feature of connecting two bluetooth devices at the same time, 510S system just drops my cell phone and connects to basestation the moment it reaches with in the vicinity of signal - bad bad bad



I really wish that plantronics can develop the headset to support multiple bluetooth devices simultaneously so that irrespetive what rings you can answer and feel really handsfree.



That takes one star away. Case I could find a solution to this problem I will update my review.

Good product that delivers as advertised. I use it for work, where I have frequent long (3-5 hours) teleconference calls per week and it has made those sessions much more pleasant. Colleagues on the other end say the voice quality is no different than when I used to speak into the handset, and the battery appears to have great staying power given I have used it for 7 hour calls thus far.

I have used CS50 for a long time and I got 510S as a replacement. After trying 510S for a few days, I went back to CS50:



Pros:



Works for both my landline and cell phone at the same time, I realy like this.



Good sound quality.



Cons:



Compares with CS50, I got much shorter range. This is the deciding factor that I switched back to CS50. Had it been a class 1 (100M range), I would have kept it and given it five stars.



If you do not require a work range more than a couple of meters, this is the right product for you.

I use this headset with a digital Siemens phone system and a BlackBerry 8800. I am very impressed with how the headset can seamlessly switch between a call on the cell phone to the desk phone and back again without any issues. I've been wanting something like this for a long time, but just assumed it didn't exist. Set up was very easy, the hardest thing was waiting the recommended three hours to get a full charge before using it. The headset it self is the most comfortable one I've ever worn and I have gone through a few of them. For the fist time I don't have to have the volume cranked up all the way or have to jam the earbud in my ear canal to hear the person on the other end. I've had no complaints from the people on the other end of the call about the sound quality, very impressive in my office which is a very loud environment.

In my business my employees and I need to have cordless phones. I purchased the RCA system that is available here (with cordless units that need to link to the base units). After replacing all the cordless units multiple times with tech-support over a year and then having the warranty expire I felt the need to find another more reliable system. I found the Panasonic 4 line system with cordless handsets, but the reviews reminded me of my problems with RCA....so no go.



I splurged and bought a true business system from ESI. Awesome and it does more than we ever thought we could have.....except for the cordless handsets. At $500.00 a crack we could not afford the digital cordless units.



But then I find the Plantronic Voyager 510. With the HL-10 lifter it works with my ESI desk phone. I am cordless and HANDSFREE TOO! I can walk around my store with no loss of signal. I expected the 30 ft coverable would be marginal, but I am sure I am getting at least 40 ft of coverage.



Many of my customers insist on calling me on my cell phone and others call into the store. No problem with my Voyager. Regardless of which system they are calling me on....just click the button on the headset and we are connected. No switching from a cordless phone to my cell phone.



I can not recommend this product more highly. No product has been so easy to install, get up and running, AND provide exactly what was advertised. When it comes to tech products that is a rarity.

I loved this headset with the lifter for about 1 year but IT IS NOT BUILT TO LAST!

The charging allows you to but the earpiece in to the base unit. The problem is they use a small clip on that holder that keeps the earpiece in the right position to charge. After a year of use this small plastic clip (about the width of a toothpick) loses its ability to hold the earpiece for a proper charge. You can wiggle it around and usually get it to work but for somebody that is on and off the phone frequently it is very easy to not have the unit charge and the next thing you know beep beep and you are out of battery leaving you the rest of the day with no blue tooth.

I talked to plantronics and their only response is they will replace the base unit for $125.

Matt S: well, theres not a lot of trouble shooting to do if the headset is springing up out of the charger except for replacing it. if it's been more then a year, we charge around $125 to replace the whole thing.

Jeff: Is this a known problem where the little plastic holder\clip is no longer holding the unit in?

Everything else works fine I would hate to spend $125 for such a simple problem.

Matt S: no, it's not a known problem. I'd see if you can somehow adjust the metal tabs inside the base then if you don't want to pay for a replacement. thats the only thing i can think of.

Jeff: I will do some research on the web. I find it hard to believe this isn't a common problem with this unit. And for such a small part I really do not want to spend $125!!!

This system was easy to install and works great. I am on the phone 85% of my work day. I have had no reception problems and the earpiece is very comfortable. The only problem I had was the ringer mic on the lifter being too sensitive. Every time the door to the office slammed shut it would cause the headset to beep as if the phone was ringing. This was annoying while actually talking to somebody. I worked around it by taping over the mic so it was less sensitive. (the mic is on the underside so it is not visible) I would reccomend this product to anyone wishing to free themselves of their handset!
