I did extensive reviews on this product. The thing I disliked the most was the auto shutoff. It's a battery saving feature that makes the product suck!!



Pay a little more and buy something newer. Plantronics has several new headsets that seem pretty cool.

This is a very good bluetooth. Unfortunatly, when my old one wore out from use, my replacment I orderred was defective. The company I bougbht it from provided me a return authorization and I am waiting for my replacement. It's a great product and works well outdoors and with noise and wind. I fly fish alot and I wear my blue tooth. People who are calling can't even tell I am fly fishing and assume I am in the office. This is good.

My wife's died about two weeks ago. I emailed the company explaining I bought it from Amazon and mentioned it is within the warranty period. I did not hear anything for about a week, and then, a replacement appeared at my house, sent via express mail. It is a refurb, but that is their condition, and it looks and works perfectly. Awesome customer service. Just one more reason to get this product!





I have used this for a month, and I love it. I have been searching for a decent bluetooth headset, and after using it for about a month, I can tell you it is great. The sound is very good and clear. I have no complaints from anyone I speak with, and usually they don't even know I am using a headset. There are only two negatives, and they really are not that bad. First, turning it on and off is not easy. That is not really a bad thing, but it is a little awkward. My second complaint would take off half a star, and that is, my usb car charger cannot work with it, and I had to buy a seperate charger. It is much easier to answer and hang up, when compared to others I have used. It is VERY comfortable, and I sometimes forget that I am wearing it., as witnessed by my wife who often reminds me tha tI am still wearing it. I bought this because my wife's set died and she needed a new one. Ehem, it seems that I somehow ended up with this one and she got my old piece of &$#%(@ (insert your guess of brand here) because she was used to it. Well, she now has her own and loves it as well, though she also complains about the on/off button. I should also note that my Verizon Razor, which often would not recognize the Verizon blue tooth headset I had, has no problem QUICKLY hooking up with this headset. I really love it and would recommend it to anyone. Lastly, the battery life is very good.

This is the second unit like this that I have owned. (The first was broken in a car accident). Both have worked very well, with few complaints from callers with the exception of background noise. I'm not sure if most earpieces are like this, but callers have told me that it can get loud at times. As long as I have my truck window closed there are no problems. My wife also has one and says it works great for her, too.

I've used several bluetooth headsets, with the last being a Motorola HS850. The Plantronics Voyager 510, is hands down, the best I've used. Pairing with my RAZR V3 was simple. I've also paired it with my bluetooth enabled laptop (also simple). Sound quality and volume with my phone and also the laptop, for SKYPE calls, is very good. Overall comfort of wearing it, is excellent, once you decide which earbud piece you like best. Aesthetically, it's really nice to not look like you wearing "a cockroach" on your ear. The noise cancelling feature is very nice, but I find in a loud enviroment, there is sometimes a slight clipping of conversations. Easily solved by rolling up your window, or turning down the radio. :) Overall, this headset has been a pleasure to use, with no big downside. Amazon pricing was excellent. Only reason I didn't go 5 stars, was for the noise cancelling.

I have been using this 510 for over 2 years and it has functioned flawlessly the entire time. It replaced my adequate Motorola but is far better in sound quality. This has a long battery life, is easy to use and has exceptional sound quality over several others I have tried. Recently went to the new Touch and paired - no problem, going to be just as good with it.

As a sidenote, this can be used either on the right or left side. It's prettysturdy and easy to change around.

Compared to most, the design is a bit clunky but since it does it's job so well, I can live with it. Very comfortable to wear, just a bit big. Definitely a winner; I considered moving to something a bit more sleek but after all, it is functional over form in this case. 5 stars for superior in what it does - let you make & receive those calls like you are using a landline....

The battery wore out in 2 months on the first one, The second one would not turn on after a month and the rubber on the third one separated from the plastic on the last one and the sound quality went to h***. I've been using my Plantronics 510 since December 4, 2005, and it has performed flawlessly throughout. Incoming audio quality is excellent and I've never had a complaint from anyone concerning sound quality on their end; indeed, most are surprised that I'm using a wireless device. I routinely recharge the unit at conclusion of each business day and, unlike a previous reviewer, I've yet to have a problem. Only tonight, I paired my 510 with an AT&T Bluetooth-capable home cordless phone system, which will allow me use this outstanding product in my home office, as well as when I'm on the road. I recently purchased the Plantronics Voyager 510 with multipoint and windsmart technology to replace the Jabra 500v headset I had. The Jabra was good, but I could not get it to fit comfortably into my ear; and the people on the other end heard more wind than me! The Plantronics linked easily to my LG phone, and the smallest earbud provided was quite comfortable! It is so light, sometimes I forget I have it on! The sound quality is great on both ends! I left myself a message to determine if I could be heard instead of wind, and I heard myself great! This headset is definitely worth every penny!

I am hearing challenged and recently purchased new Oticon EPOQ hearing aids. They have an accessory streamer that allows you to connect via bluetooth to up to 8 devices; such as your cell phone, an ipod, television sound, etc. The streamer then routes the sound directly into the hearing aid. I purchased the Plantronics Voyager 500A to connect my multi-line digital work telephone via my streamer to my hearing aids. The Plantronics base unit is designed to be used in conjunction with a bluetooth headset, but it works well with my streamer to accomplish the same goal. Only problem is the base unit has a receiver to "charge" the headset which in my case I do not need. Sometimes the red indicator light on the base blinks for the headset to be recharged and it will not accept calls during this time. Therefore I just unplug the base unit each night and plug it back in in the morning. This circumvents the necessity of charging the headset, which I do not have.

I've been researching universal Blue-tooth adapters for office phones (mainly Polycom IP phones) for about a month now. The lack of information and products out there is astounding. Understandable though, it's two new markets that are set to merge, they just haven't done so yet. In my research I spoke to some of the leading headset experts in the office phone industry and they weren't aware of a universal Blue-tooth solution to use consumer grade (cell phone) Blue-tooth headsets with an office PBX/IP phone. Anyway, I first bought a Scala combo kit which includes a Scala-500 Blue-tooth headset and BTA II universal Blue-tooth adapter. The adapter connects to a device via 2.5mm male connector. The problem is that most office phones don't have that type of connector, they have an RJ9 which is the small style telephone plug. Although a patent exists for a female 2.5mm jack to male RJ9 plug, the device simply doesn't exist in the marketplace for purchase. Eager to test this 2.5mm to RJ9 connection theory I went to Radio Shack and bought some parts, put together an adapter and we have success! The downside is that we would have to get the part manufactured and it's still a bit of a hack. Long story short, decided to test the Plantronic Voyager 500A to see if the base was proprietary to the headset like most of the Bluetooth office headsets out there. My gamble paid off and it looks to be truly universal. Of the headsets I tested with, all pick up and hang up the call remotely EXCEPT the Jawbone II. Why this doesn't work to pick up the call i'm not sure. It hangs it up just fine.

Static...hard to get rid of. They give detailed information on how to place the adaptor, but no matter where I place it on my desk I get intermittent static, and / or echoing. It is nice to be hands free, but I have heard that I sound as if though I am in a tunnel when I talk...and forget about leaving the office with the headset...it does not have the range to get more than to my door...which is only ten feet away from the phone.



The overall quality of the product is good. It is made of tough plastic. It charges fast, and seems to hold its charge well. If you can deal with the static, it may be a good option. If you rely on clear calls...try something else.

Sound quality seems good for me; once or twice the person I was speaking with said it sounded like there was background noise when I was speaking. I have been a Jabra Bluetooth fan for years and this is my first non-Jabra Bluetooth headset. In these years I have broken, lost or damaged at least five Jabra headsets but still was looking for all for one solution.



There are three major audio communication devices today which may need a headset. Starting with your deskphone, your cell/mobile phone and may be your software VoIP running on your laptop/desktop specifically when you travel.



I am glad to say this device can do all that and that too with ease of use to the limit that factory settings will work for most standard phones.



Desk phone/Landline (as we used to call it :-) )

I am using Cisco 79xx series VoIP desk phone at work with headset button that has RJ11 jack for headset - piece of cake worked like a charm, no tuning required except minor volume setting.



Cell/Mobile

Paired with my blackberry and iPhone under a minute and up and running



VoIP Softphone: have not tried as yet but have been informed that it should work flawlessly.



So far my experience for the last 48 hours have been nothing but *five star*.



Sound Quality: Excellent 5* including NO static, noise etc

Distance: Pretty good, I can use my breakroom while in the meeting which should be 20+ feet without loss of quality

Remote pickup/drop: I dont have a lifter so I have to press headset button but can drop the call remotely. Cell phone works just fine the way it should including last number redial

Weight n Stuff : Very nice fit and light wt however as compared to typical BT series of Jabra it is little big (with extended MIC)

Noise Cancellation: Haven't heard a complaint as yet including while driving the car wih driving window open

Additional: I am thinking of buying the 500A base station for my home as well so that I can use the same headset for all my needs - Bonus.

Looks: Not bad but this is not the one that will enhance your looks :-). Extended Mic gives you noise cancelling, avoids your effort to speak louder but reduces the glamour case you care but thats my opinion.



Now the downside



1. Minor: Base station, as typical of Plantronics, too big could have done a better job but not really a downside as in cant take even half a point for that. But something to think about.



2. Major downside is unlike Jabra's amazing feature of connecting two bluetooth devices at the same time, 510S system just drops my cell phone and connects to basestation the moment it reaches with in the vicinity of signal - bad bad bad



I really wish that plantronics can develop the headset to support multiple bluetooth devices simultaneously so that irrespetive what rings you can answer and feel really handsfree.



That takes one star away. Case I could find a solution to this problem I will update my review.

Good product that delivers as advertised. I use it for work, where I have frequent long (3-5 hours) teleconference calls per week and it has made those sessions much more pleasant. Colleagues on the other end say the voice quality is no different than when I used to speak into the handset, and the battery appears to have great staying power given I have used it for 7 hour calls thus far.

I have used CS50 for a long time and I got 510S as a replacement. After trying 510S for a few days, I went back to CS50:



Pros:



Works for both my landline and cell phone at the same time, I realy like this.



Good sound quality.



Cons:



Compares with CS50, I got much shorter range. This is the deciding factor that I switched back to CS50. Had it been a class 1 (100M range), I would have kept it and given it five stars.



If you do not require a work range more than a couple of meters, this is the right product for you.

I use this headset with a digital Siemens phone system and a BlackBerry 8800. I am very impressed with how the headset can seamlessly switch between a call on the cell phone to the desk phone and back again without any issues. I've been wanting something like this for a long time, but just assumed it didn't exist. Set up was very easy, the hardest thing was waiting the recommended three hours to get a full charge before using it. The headset it self is the most comfortable one I've ever worn and I have gone through a few of them. For the fist time I don't have to have the volume cranked up all the way or have to jam the earbud in my ear canal to hear the person on the other end. I've had no complaints from the people on the other end of the call about the sound quality, very impressive in my office which is a very loud environment.

In my business my employees and I need to have cordless phones. I purchased the RCA system that is available here (with cordless units that need to link to the base units). After replacing all the cordless units multiple times with tech-support over a year and then having the warranty expire I felt the need to find another more reliable system. I found the Panasonic 4 line system with cordless handsets, but the reviews reminded me of my problems with RCA....so no go.



I splurged and bought a true business system from ESI. Awesome and it does more than we ever thought we could have.....except for the cordless handsets. At $500.00 a crack we could not afford the digital cordless units.



But then I find the Plantronic Voyager 510. With the HL-10 lifter it works with my ESI desk phone. I am cordless and HANDSFREE TOO! I can walk around my store with no loss of signal. I expected the 30 ft coverable would be marginal, but I am sure I am getting at least 40 ft of coverage.



Many of my customers insist on calling me on my cell phone and others call into the store. No problem with my Voyager. Regardless of which system they are calling me on....just click the button on the headset and we are connected. No switching from a cordless phone to my cell phone.



I can not recommend this product more highly. No product has been so easy to install, get up and running, AND provide exactly what was advertised. When it comes to tech products that is a rarity.

 "Not durable in charging" 2007-09-28

I loved this headset with the lifter for about 1 year but IT IS NOT BUILT TO LAST!

The charging allows you to but the earpiece in to the base unit. The problem is they use a small clip on that holder that keeps the earpiece in the right position to charge. After a year of use this small plastic clip (about the width of a toothpick) loses its ability to hold the earpiece for a proper charge. You can wiggle it around and usually get it to work but for somebody that is on and off the phone frequently it is very easy to not have the unit charge and the next thing you know beep beep and you are out of battery leaving you the rest of the day with no blue tooth.

I talked to plantronics and their only response is they will replace the base unit for $125.

Jeff: I have the 510 with the base unit that charges and lets me use the unit with my land line.

I am having problems with the headset charging in this base unit. I have had it for 1year or a little more and it has always worked well but lately it seems to spring back up.

Matt S: well, theres not a lot of trouble shooting to do if the headset is springing up out of the charger except for replacing it. if it's been more then a year, we charge around $125 to replace the whole thing.

Jeff: Is this a known problem where the little plastic holder\clip is no longer holding the unit in?

Everything else works fine I would hate to spend $125 for such a simple problem.

Matt S: no, it's not a known problem. I'd see if you can somehow adjust the metal tabs inside the base then if you don't want to pay for a replacement. thats the only thing i can think of.

Jeff: Do you know what plastic holder\clip part I am talking about?

Matt S: you said the base unit, so i imagine that.

Jeff: imagine what?



Matt S: that your talking about the base unit jeff.

Jeff: Yes the base unit but do you know what little plastic part I am talking about?

Matt S: the part that holds the headset?

Jeff: it is the little plastic clip about the size of a tooth pick. It seems that it loses its ability to clip the earpeace over time. Does that make sense?

Matt S: then you should send it in and we'll replace it.

Jeff: I will do some research on the web. I find it hard to believe this isn't a common problem with this unit. And for such a small part I really do not want to spend $125!!!

This system was easy to install and works great. I am on the phone 85% of my work day. I have had no reception problems and the earpiece is very comfortable. The only problem I had was the ringer mic on the lifter being too sensitive. Every time the door to the office slammed shut it would cause the headset to beep as if the phone was ringing. This was annoying while actually talking to somebody. I worked around it by taping over the mic so it was less sensitive. (the mic is on the underside so it is not visible) I would reccomend this product to anyone wishing to free themselves of their handset!
