I've had one of these headsets for two years. It finally quit, but is an excellent headset.
I tried another, different headset recently because the reviews said it was LOUD, but it wasn't any louder than the Motorola headset (and they both have volume controls so that it doesn't HAVE to be loud). The other one also hurt my ear, and the Motorola doesn't. It feels loose on my ear, but stays in place securely, and doesn't give me a headache and earache when using it for more than 5 minutes. I've worn the Motorola headset for several hours without a problem, and, in fact, have forgotten I'm wearing it on several occasions because it's so comfortable.
I have hearing problems, and have used hearing aids for a while. This headset works well with them, and also on it's own. The part against the ear is relatively flat and it has a rubbery covering which keeps it from bumping against the aid and being a problem since it contacts the aid when in position.
It seems to be difficult to find headsets that don't go IN your ear, which is a problem for hearing aid wearers, since they already HAVE something in their ear. My aids were in-ear, and stuck out of the hearing canal slightly. I don't know how this would work with behind-the-ear aids, but the headset itself provides clear sound that's good enough and loud enough that it works without the aids for me. Speaking to someone over this headset is clearer and more understandable than speaking to them in person whether using the aids or not.
This headset just WORKS, easily and with no problem. You can flip the boom out (thereby turning it on) and slip it on your ear to answer a call, and it only takes a second or two, unlike other headsets that take a while to turn on. Using it this way is practical, and works well if you're not expecting a call and wish to use the headset.
As far as sound quality is concerned, the sound is probably the best you'll find for hearing speech clearly. When fitted with my aids, the audiologist explained that most of the parts of human speech that convey meaning are in the upper part of the range. This headset conveys those sounds clearly. That means that it will sound just a little tinny to most people because of the sound boost in the higher range of human speech. This is a sound balance that tends to make speech clearer, though, and make communication better for all concerned.
I replaced my headset with another one, and after the disappointment of the new one, plan to buy another headset just like this.

I have a couple different headsets. My advice is to ensure that you are purchasing brand new, original Motorola products. The easiest way to do that is to find ones in original Motorola retail packaging. They may cost a little more, but I still found an HS-850 for $35. If you ask me, it's worth the risk because if you get one that's refurbished or a knock-off, it probably won't last. I had one that quit working after a week for no reason. I am, however, very happy with the one I bought in retail packaging, which I am still using.
